Anonymous said: I know you are supportive of the lgbt community so I wanted to ask... what do you think about interacting with homophobic or biggoted people? Can you be friends with someone different then you?

One thing I need to point out is that being civil is very different than being genuine friends with someone. I interact with bigoted people everyday, come to my work and you’ll see. That’s my job, I have to. I hate when people lump these two together.. I’ve been asked this before. Those who know I make a very conscious effort to support people like to question my level of tolerance and civility. It pisses me off a whole bunch. What my opinion comes down to is this.. Could I be friends with someone who is hateful? Yeah. Would I want to be? That’s another story. Call me crazy, but I would rather not spend time with someone who hates on other people for who they are.

"We write for the same reason that we walk, talk, climb mountains or swim the oceans — because we can. We have some impulse within us that makes us want to explain ourselves to other human beings. That’s why we paint, that’s why we dare to love someone- because we have the impulse to explain who we are. Not just how tall we are, or thin… but who we are internally… perhaps even spiritually."

I wonder what it’s like to have someone fall for you. And I mean really fall for you. Not just they want to get in your pants because they think you’re attractive. But be consumed with every little piece of you. The way you talk, the way you laugh, the way you just exist. To everyone in love: you don’t know how lucky you are.
